Terry was born and raised in Port-Aux-Basques. His formal education is in the areas of Environmental Science and Engineering Technologies. Terry has been working in the environmental sector in this province since 1992 in various capacities. He has worked extensively in the NGO sector designing and implementing environmental effects monitoring programs for ACAP Humber Arm, has worked in a variety of projects related to wildlife and fisheries conservation management and research through groups such as the Canadian Forest Service, Model Forest Program, Aquatic Centre for Research and Education and the Model River Program. He has also been involved in numerous programs with respect to public education and outreach on a variety of environmental and resource conservation issues.

Terry began working with the Conservation Corps Newfoundland and Labrador in January 2000. Initially, Terry worked on the Conservation Corp's EcoTeam Program and managed the delivery of the EnerGuide for Houses program of Natural Resources Canada throughout the province until 2003. For the next 3 years Terry served as the Director of the Climate Change Education Centre which is hosted by the Conservation Corps. In September 2007, Terry became the Executive Director of the Conservation Corps Newfoundland and Labrador.

Terry is married and has two daughters named Kate and Georgia.  He enjoys spending time with his family, especially at his cabin located on the West coast of the Province. In his spare time Terry enjoys many outdoor recreational activities but fly fishing is his obsession and he also volunteers a great deal of his time to fishery conservation organizations including serving as President or Vice-President for SPAWN for 5 years (Salmon Preservation Association for the waters of Newfoundland and Labrador). Terry also enjoys cooking and many people enjoy that he does as well.
