GREEN TEAM PROGRAM

 

Since 1993, the Conservation Corps Newfoundland and Labrador (CCNL) Green Team Program has provided financial support and guidance to community-based projects that involve the enhancement, restoration, and sustainable development of our natural and cultural resources.

 CCNL provides funding support and assistance with the hiring of local youth (aged 16-30) to work on proposed projects. These projects mainly focus on assisting in the development of our resources for long-term sustainability and providing young people with an opportunity to develop leadership, teamwork and employment skills. CCNL supports projects that have the following themes but are not limited to:

 

  •  Community Sustainability ("Greening" the Community)
  •  Climate Change & Energy Efficiency
  •  Habitat Protection, Enhancement and Restoration
  •  Cultural Resource Enhancement/Protection
  •  Water Conservation, Efficiency and Source Protection
  •  Heritage Tourism
  •  Environmental Education
  •  Scientific and Cultural Research
  •  Waste Management

 Not-for-profits groups are eligible to apply to the Green Team Program.  This includes, but is not limited to: environmental groups, youth groups, community groups, service clubs, aboriginal groups, senior groups, associations and development groups. Educational institutions, regional economic development boards, private sector organizations (small business), provincial and federal governments are also eligible to apply but are encouraged to partner with a local community group.

 CCNL provides 85% of the funding to employ a traditional 4-person Green Team. Applicants must provide remaining 15% ($3000.00) along with any materials and supplies to complete the project.

 Full funding is available through our Corporate Sponsored Green Team Program (limited capacity - please inquire for further information).

 If your project does not fit the traditional model of a four person Team, Conservation Corps can explore other possibilities with applicants on partnerships under the Green Team Program. For example, we will consider the creation and development of Specialty Teams to meet the needs of particular projects. Duration of employment and/or wages could be enhanced and number of Team members may vary from the traditional 4-person Team.
