Guide to Delivery of Resource Materials
The Greener Futures Program has a variety of case studies, info sheets and activities that you, as the facilitator, can choose from to work with your participants. Many of the resources provided can be used in a number of modules, and with a wide range of groups. They are meant to provide you with an overview of a topic and allow you to decide the level of depth of the discussion. In an effort to reduce the paper required for facilitators to print in preparation, we do not have specific discussion questions for the cases and info sheets. The activity sheets explain the directions on the handout itself.
We have provided some general areas of interest to cover in delivering these resources. We hope that these will be enough to enable you to begin discussion with your entrepreneurs.
Case Studies
Be sure to read the related materials, particularly the Key Points summaries before leading a discussion on the case studies. When working with the case studies, lead the participant by asking questions like:
- How did each company benefit by going green? Benefits can be financial or of another nature. Who else benefited from the activities?
- Did the company reduce waste? Pollution? Decrease inefficiency? Energy costs? Waste disposal costs and issues? Reduce or eliminate waste packaging - from their own product or suppliers?
- Did the company alter their marketing strategy as a result? Did it gain benefit of new messages for consumers or a new consumer base?
- Were there new products or innovations discovered? Will this provide new growth opportunities? Stimulate employees to new and creative approaches?
- What environmental strategy is evidenced here - reduce, reuse, recover or recycle? Did it involve specific equipment or larger capital like buildings? Did they rethink some of their processes?
- Is there a lesson in the case to be applied to the entrepreneur's business?
Info Sheets
Read each sheet carefully to determine where you would like it to fit in your presentation. The main purpose of the Info Sheets is to provide food for thought for the entrepreneur and provide take home information for reference. The key questions would be around applying these concepts to their businesses, the challenges and benefits associated.
