Darren demonstrates his commitment to environmental conservation and preservation and his love for the outdoors in both his work and personal life. Born and raised near the shores of Bonavista Bay and with Terra Nova National Park in his backyard, Darren developed a strong connection with the outdoors and nature at a very young age. Growing up in a family of educators Darren learned to combine his love for teaching, with his aim to promote conservation and protection of the environment.

Darren has a Bachelor of Science Degree from Acadia University with a concentration on Wildlife Management and Conservation. Darren has been working in the environmental sector since 1990 including such groups as Parks Canada, Environment Canada and the Western Newfoundland Model Forest. Darren has held the positions of Regional Supervisor, Project Officer and Program Manager with the Conservation Corps and is currently the Director of Programs. In this role Darren is able to combine his diverse skills as a professional manager, biologist, trainer/facilitator, program developer as well as advocate our province's youth, environmental, and cultural resources.

Darren is instrumental in on-the-ground program development and implementation for the Conservation Corps. Managing over 300 community based projects and numerous programs Darren has developed an extensive network of government, corporate and community partners. In addition, he has a great understanding of the province's youth training and employment needs as well as extensive knowledge of rural Newfoundland and Labrador communities and the issues they face.

Darren and his wife Joanne are the parents of two beautiful sons. Their family time is enjoyed with many outdoor activities. If and when Darren gets any free time it usually involves fishing, hunting and boating. Darren also enjoys listening to Newfoundland music with his two favorite songs being "Saltwater Joys" and "The Bay is My Home." by Buddy Wasisname and the Other Fellers.
